Bochum
In Bochum (365,000 inhabitants), the upturn by the steel and coal industry was very rapid. Since the peak of the population in 1975, however, the population development is negative. The population losses are relatively low despite the structural change in the mining industry. Numerous measures were taken to tackle structural change and revitalization. In addition, the city of Bochum is part of the revitalization strategy IBA Emscher Park, which has fought structural change with regional approaches.
